It's Monday! What Are You Reading!

It's Monday is a book meme by Sheila over at Book Journey.

This Week I Read;

We - Yevgeny Zamyatin (great dystopian, supposedly the first)

The Iliad - Homer (as part of a readalong. Very much enjoyed it).

Sister - Rosamund Lupton (for my book group. Wouldn't have picked it myself so glad it was chosen).

Just Now I Am Reading;
Shantaram - Gregory David Roberts (as part of a readalong. This will appear here for a while as we are reading about 100pgs a week. Loving it so far).

A Fine Balance - Rohinton Mistry (as part of Books I Should Have Read By Now challenge. Possibly a mistake reading another book set in India but I am liking it).

Next I Plan To Read;
The Help - Kathryn Stockett (have read too many reviews on this one by other bloggers. Can no longer resist reading it).

I am also looking for recommendations. Know any good books (fiction or non fiction but preferably not romance) about nursing?

  3. Some great books on your list. Re: The Help ... just look beyond the hype and read it. It really IS very good - it's the sort of book that many people enjoy.

  4. Hrm I can't think of any nursing ones off the top of my head but have you read Tom Reynold's books about being a London paramedic? I thoroughly recommend Blood, Sweat and Tea for anyone wanting to get a real insight into the work of emergency response teams.

    Enjoy The Help, once you get into the language it's a great read.

  5. It seems you had a good reading week :) Sadly I do not know any books about nursing I think. But I loved Tiny Sunbirds far away. Somehow I think you will enjoy this book, because it is about becoming a midwife in rural Nigeria and very well written.

  6. Thanks for the recommendations everyone. Tiny Sunbirds sounds interesting. I will have to looke that up.

    Ellie, I have read those books. Absolutely loved them. So funny and puts quite a lot into perspective. Have huge respect for paramedics. I also read the Junior Doctor books by Max Pemberton which are also funny.

  7. I almost read We back in March when I was in my dystopian period. :) I'm hoping to read it sometime later this year.

  13. I have We and have been meaning to re-read it. I don't know that it's the first but it is certainly among the first of the dystopians.

    I also have The Help on my wishlist. I plan to listen to the audio book version.

    Summer school begins for me so my reading for fun will take second place to reading for homework. So my reading for fun will have to take second place to reading for school. Come see what I finished in my last week of vacation.
