It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

This is a book meme by Sheila of Book Journey. A fun way of sharing our reading week.

I have been a little slow in my reading as my studies have picked up. I am still reading though and last week I had a fairly good one.

Last week I read;

How To Be A Woman - Caitlin Moran. A funny look on feminism. Interesting but didn't agree with all of it. Very much agreed with her view on heels, they hurt!

Making History - Stephen Fry. I did like it but it was a bit of a two week slog. Glad Fry didn't let me down.

The Bonesetter's Daughter - Amy Tan. Mixed feelings on this one. I liked the section set in China but not the sections set in present time.

Just now I am reading;

The Woman In White - Wilkie Collins. Only two pages into the book so can't comment at this point. I have been looking forward to this one as everyone who has read Collins seems to love him. This is for my classic a month. I doubt very much I will finish it this week so I'm not going to list another book for the week. Just going to enjoy this one.

What about you:? What have you been reading?

  1. Everyone I talk to has liked Woman in White too, so it's quite the pressure. I'll be looking forward to your thoughts! I need to read The Kitchen God's Wife. I'm sorry Bonesetter's Daughter didn't work too well, I may not give it a go now.

  3. I've only read one Wilkie Collins book, The Moonstone, it took me two attempts to get through it. The second attempt payed off though and I loved it.

    I sill want to read The Woman In White, so I will be looking forward to your review.

  6. Ooops, didn't mean to put anyone off The Bonesetter's Daughter. It just didn't live up to my expectations. The second part, which is my favourite part, takes up most of the book. Glad I read it for that alone.

    Kristen already reviewed The Bonesetter's Daughter. It's the previous post to this one.

    Ryan, The Moonstone is definitely on my tbr list if I like The Woman in White. Since I posted this I have moved on from a few pages and so far so good. A very mysterious start.

    Aths I haven't read that one either. This hasn't put me off Amy Tan. So maybe I will add that one to my tr list too. I think Woman in White will live up to its expectations. It's good so far.

  7. I know a lot of people who have read and loved 'How To Be a Woman'. I don't usually like autobiography/biography-type books but am starting to think this would be an exception!

    I read 'The Woman In White' a couple of years ago and liked it from what I remember. Hope you enjoy it!

  8. Yeah, it's not usually my cup of tea either but I somehow I always end up reading one or two a year. This one is good. Everything she talks about relates to her life in some way so it's definitely more autobiographical.

    40 pages in and so far so good. Some strange characters in there already which is just adding to the goodness of the book. I think I am going to love it.

  9. I've not heard of How to be a Woman. After skimming your review, might have to check it out. I just listened to Bossypants, and it might be a nice comparison/companion book to it.
