It's Monday, What Are You Reading!

This is a book meme by Sheila of Book Journey. It's a fun way to share your reading week.

As predicted I didn't finish any books last week and so I am still reading The Woman In White by Wilkie Collins. To be fair I had read maybe five pages when I did this post last week. I am just over the half way mark now and what a journey. I think at this point I can safely say that this will be one of my favourite (if not the favourite) classics. I doubt I could have read this any faster even if I wasn't so busy because I am on edge every time I pick it up. I HAVE to know what the woman in whites secret is. I don't think my poor system could take it if I read it any faster.

No plans yet for the next book. I have some scary books on the way which I plan to read this month so I will probably pick one of those.

What are you reading just now? Anyone else read The Woman In White? Anyone planning on some scary October reads?

  2. If you ever get the chance to pick it up you should. It's amazing. Full of suspense.

Just finished (this morning) rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which has always been my least favorite of the series but was surprised to find myself fully enjoying it.

Anyone else read The Woman In White?
No, but it's now one of the many books on my neverending list.

Anyone planning on some scary October reads?
Not really. Unless my textbook counts as scary although, given the anxiety I am feeling about the amount of material I have to cover, it may qualify as scary.

  4. I enjoyed this book but found it rather slow-reading and that gets irritating. But that's the case with all books from that period. The story is good fun, though.

  5. I'll be reading this at some point (part of my 100 classics challenge), but I keep picking the Russians before it. But any day now...

  6. I have never heard of that book! I must be missing out if you are enjoying it so much. For October, I'm planning on upping my paranormal reads, which is hard to do. But it's going to be a month of vampires galore, a few demons, and some angels (the fallen kind).

Thanks for stopping by my blog :)

  7. Satia, it's a toss up between the Order of the Phoenix and the last Harry Potter as to which is my least favourite. Prisoner of Azkaban was my favourite. Good luck with your studies. I know how daunting it can be sometimes. I'm sure it will work out fine.

Leeswammes, it is slow reading but since I can't spend that much time with it anyway it doesn't feel slow.

FBT, I haven't read that many of the Russians but I can see why you would pick those out first. The ones I have read I loved.

Becca, I think he is compared to Charles Dickens a lot because they wrote round about the same time. I ODd on paranormals a few years ago. Haven't got back into them since sadly. Hope you enjoy.

  10. This one sounds really interesting, I went to add it to my TBR list and discovered it's already there! And extra bonus - the Kindle version is free through the Kindle Classics program!

  11. That's good to hear! I bought The Woman In White a few months ago while on vacation (because who doesn't go to bookstores while on vacation--airlines love having the extra poundage in your luggage!) ... I'll have to give it a try!

  12. I like that cover of The Woman in White! It wasn't one of my favorites, but I did like the sister. Marion, was it? Enjoy your week!

  14. Thanks Cat, you too.

Crystal, I did the same thing. I bought a copy only to discover I already had it. Mind you this version is much nicer.

Reading in winter, I agree holidays are meant to be spent looking in bookshops. I always look for a book shop wherever I go (and usually buy more than I plan).

Jen, I love the cover too. It's part of the vintage classics range that I love so much. I always try to buy those ones if I can.

shelleyrae, I hope you get the chance too. Well worth it.

Lori, will stop by your blog and have a look.
