Last week was one of the most stressful weeks I've had in a long time. It resulted in very little sleep and little reading. That all changed by the end of the week but I only got one book read because of it.
Last week I read;
"A Storm of Swords 1: Steel and Snow" by George R. R. Martin. The best book in the series so far. I honestly didn't think it could improve but it has.

Just now I am reading:
"Hunger" by Michael Grant. So far so good. My doubts about this series haven't been realised and I am enjoying it. However, what I really wanted to read was the next George R. R. Martin book.

So this week I plan to read;
"A Storm of Swords 2: Blood and Gold" by George R. R. Martin. Very much looking forward to this. It's also part of my books I should have read by now challenge.

I held a birthday giveaway last week. Falaise won the lovely edition of Jane Eyre. Thanks again to everyone who took part. I loved reading your replies to my question.
Can you help me decide if I should read the George R.R. Martin books? I keep thinking I want to and then think I won't be able to finish such bulky reads. Are they super great or will they only appeal to one particular genre reader? I am so torn...
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading a book on the diary of Anne Frank, another on women in the French Resistance during WWII, the third book is a novel (Please Take Care of Mom), and that doesn't include the "morning books" I read every morning or the book I am about to start as part of my research for the newsletter I work on. I have more than one book to choose from for the research and I have to buckle down sometime today and make a choice. Plus I have about five books at the library I need to pick up including Emma by Jane Austen, a couple of young adult novels, and a couple of early childhood education books. I'll be happy if I would just make time to finish reading one book this week. Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of the George R R Martin series but it's on my list!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the stressful week. Hope things will be much better in September.
ReplyDeleteHere's my post for this week: It's Monday! What Are You Reading?! And only two days are left to sign up for the Readerbuzz August Giveaway!
Bookbelle, do you like fantasy? If you like fantasy then I would say give it a go. I would also say if you like historical fiction and sagas then give it a go too. I am a fan of all these things but it's for it's historical aspect that I like it. There is actually very little magic until the second and third book. I love the characters too and I love the fact that there is really no good or bad side. I personally think you don't have to like fantasy to enjoy it. Can you maybe get the first book out the library? I would say if you don't like it after the first 100 or so pages then give up. No point in reading all those books if you aren't enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteWow Satia, that is a busy week. No doubt that will be me when I start my uni course. I try to read a little every night and I read on the way into work. If I am awake enough that is. I love the diary of Anne Frank.
Rachel I hope you like it. I think it's easily my favourite fantasy series.
Thanks Deb, it all worked out by the end of the week and it was nothing that I knew wouldn't work out. Just one of those things.
I've never read George Martin either but I think I would like him.
ReplyDeleteMine is at http://www.spiritblog.net/?p=3561.
I have the Gone series in my pile of books to be read. Looking forward to it. Not sure about the George Martin books yet. Happy Reading!
