July Book Purchases!

I seem to stick to buying four books a month. I think I can keep up with that and still get my tbr pile down. Here are this months book purchases.

11.22.63 - Stephen King
The Scarlet Letter - Nathaniel Hawthorne
Manhattan In Reverse - Peter F. Hamilton
A Walk In The Woods - Bill Bryson

The King book is one that I have heard a lot of good things about. It has to be better than Under the Dome. So I am very much looking forward to that. I saw a review of The Scarlet Letter on FBT's blog, Kill Me If I Stop (a great blog, especially if you like classics). It sounded right up my street so this is going to be my choice for next months classic challenge. The Hamilton book is again one I have been looking forward to. As for the Bryson, I have enjoyed his autobiography and thought it is about time I tried some of his travel. I am keeping it though for the travel category in the Mixing It Up challenge.

On a whim I also took a wee trip to the library and got out these books. I'll be reading them next.

  1. Nice haul! I have Pigeon English, Snowdrops and 11.22.63 on my TBR pile, so I'll keep an eye out for your thoughts on those. I love Bill Bryson's travel writing, and A Walk in the Woods was the first I ever read. My mum gave it to me and told me to give it a try, and I've never looked back since! Hope you love it as much as I did... :)

    1. Pigeon English was okay and I was a little disappointed with Snowdrops. I am very much looking forward to the Bill Bryson. Everyone seems to enjoy his travel books. I have to resist picking it up before I get to the travel writing category in your challenge. This may be a month where I do two in one.

    1. It's good. Well worth a read. A little different from the usual classic I think.

  4. Eeeek, I hope you like The Scarlet Letter (I feel bad when I go on about books and people don't like them).

I've been hearing great things about Snowdrops and I read about 30 pages and then realised it wasn't the Russia that I love and adore and gave up. Perhaps I should't have, but oh well.

Also, I mistook Bill Bryson for Bill Bailey and got excited for a quick minute, but then realised they're not the same person.

    1. Ha ha ha, I get that guilt too! As soon as someone buys a book I recommend I start to get all nervous.

I wish I had gave up on Snowdrops. It painted such a bleak picture of Russia. I am sure some of it is accurate but not all of it. Plus the plot was a little obvious. I knew what was going to happen early on but the writer went on as though it was a big twist (there was no twist).

Lol, I love Bill Bailey too. I can understand your initial excitement.
