February Book Haul.

I told you it wasn't as large as last time. Plus only one of them was for purchased with a challenge in mind. So here is my haul;

Angelmaker by Nick Harkaway
Roots by Alex Haley
The Old Curiosity Ship by Charles Dickens
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea by Jules Verne
The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner
Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf

The Jules Verne book is the only one that was bought for a challenge. I'm looking forward to reading it as I loved Around the World In 80 Days. Plus this one might be my favourite vintage cover to date. I'm afraid you will have to wait until next month to see it though. The Harkaway was one I have known for months that I would buy it as soon as it was released. I don't think it will be lying on my shelf for too long. Roots I picked up because I know a lot of people are reading it for a read-along. Whilst I won't be joining in I have been enjoying the posts of those taking part enough for me to pick it up. The others were because I am still going through my classics phase and I can never resist those vintage cover.

Anyone else bought any good books recently?

  3. I read Mrs Dalloway last year and loved it. Woolf became and instant favourite and I'm looking forward to reading more of her works.

And I read Roots 3 times in my youth (once in Swedish and twice in English for some strange reason). I was obsessed with Haley in my teens.

The annual book sale in Sweden starts on the 22nd and I've already pre-ordered 12 books. I wasn't going to go crazy this year, but so far I've only used half of my budget, so we'll see what I find in the stores next week. There will be an embarrassing update next week.

    1. 3 times? That's a good endorsement. I am looking forward to it. I will probably read that relatively soon as my sister wants to borrow it after me.

I've been wanting to read Woolf for a while now. I have to confess that I picked this one out based solely on its vintage cover.

Shouldn't be embarrassed by your book buying at all. I look forward to seeing what you pick up.

  4. I loved Around the World too, but I still haven't got around to Leagues. You got some great books!

  5. I don't think I'll be buying Angelmaker in hardback, looks a bit large for my liking and I'll probably not get to it that quickly anyway. Enjoying seeing people's thoughts on it though.

    1. It is a lot bigger than I was expecting it to be but I was determined to pick it up. I might read this one alongside others so that I don't have to carry it about with me.

  6. I read 20,000 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea for the first time in 2010 and liked it but wasn't in love. I really do want to read Roots one day though.

    1. I'm looking forward to both. Who knows when I will actually get round to reading Roots. I think I was being optimistic that it would be soon.
